The Other Barn's History

On May 10th, 1709, Charles Stevens acquired the land where The Other Barn and The Barn both sit. The Other Barn, known as the Oakland Mills Community Center since 1969, and The Barn, also the Columbia Youth & Teen Center (owned and operated by Columbia Association), were both once part of the Owings Dorsey Dairy Farm and were among the few buildings preserved when Columbia was built.

Now, The Other Barn is a popular venue to rent for weddings, social parties, family gatherings, and other celebrations. The building was recently remodeled and decorated to preserve its rustic charm, yet provide a unique and pleasant atmosphere. With a new hardwood floor, high and wooden-beamed ceilings, and the Silo stairwell, The Other Barn allows for the highly desired barn setting closer to home. The Other Barn currently accommodates up to 200 guests, however, the maximum capacity will be 175 in 2024 due to additional renovations.

The Other Barn prides itself on being an affordable, local venue while allowing our clients to choose all of their own vendors in order to watch their dreams become a reality on their special day.
